Glenlivet 18 Year Old 70cl.The Glenlivet distillery was founded in 1824, once an illicit distillery, as were many other distilleries in Scotland at that time, Glenlivet's fate was changed when King George IV visiting Edinburgh in 1822, ordered his men to fetch some Glenlivet for a feast. A year later, Parliament approved the Excise Act, effectively making Scotch whisky's production legal and profitable. The following year, Glenlivet founder George Smith succeed in licensing Glenlivet becoming one of the first licenced distilleries in Speyside. Glenlivet would come to be known as a generic term used to describe whisky produced in Glenlivet region of Speyside which would lead to years of argument amongst various distilleries over the right to use the name. Following legal action to claim ownership on The Glenlivet name by John Gordon Smith after the death of his father in 1871. Many distilleries started to hyphenate their names, such as The Macallan-Glenlivet or The Glenfarclas-Glenlivet. As the years have passed many have sesed to continue this practice.
